Michelle and Ashley Monterrosa. Their brother Sean Monterrosa was murdered by Vallejo police on June 2, 2020. Sean Monterrosa, 22, was unarmed—on his knees, his hands on his head—when he was fired on five times by officer Jarrett Tonn through the window of Tonn's unmarked police car. Vallejo has a long history of police violence and high-profile killings; police have killed 19 people in the past decade and no officer has been held accountable.

The mother of Erik Salgado holds a balloon for him on what would have been his 24th birthday. Erik Salgado was killed on June 6, 2020 by California Highway Patrol when they fired 40 shots into his car, injuring his pregnant girlfriend and causing her to lose their unborn child. The couple was unarmed.

Willie McCoy’s aunt wears a necklace of her nephew. On February 9, 2019, 20-year-old McCoy was murdered by Vallejo police. He was asleep in his car at a Taco Bell when six officers fired 55 shots into his vehicle in just 3.5 seconds.

The four-year anniversary of the death of 21-year-old Angel Ramos. On January 23, 2017, Vallejo police shot and killed Ramos during a family gathering in his mother’s backyard; he was unarmed.

Family and community gathers to honor the life of Mario Gonzalez. Gonzalez, 26, was murdered in a park by Alameda police on April 19, 2021. Police restrained Gonzalez, who was unarmed, by kneeling on him for over five minutes. He became unresponsive and was later found dead at the hospital. Police had approached Gonzalez after a 911 call where the caller stated that Gonzalez was “not doing anything wrong” but “just scaring my wife.”

The nephew of Colby Friday at a protest in Oakland, CA. Friday, 30, was shot and killed by Stockton Police on August 16, 2016. Friday was shot eight times, once in the face and seven times in the extremities. He was unarmed.

Sequita Thompson, grandmother of Stephon Alonzo Clark, at a tribute event honoring mothers who have lost children to police and community violence. Stephon Clark was shot and killed by Sacramento police on March 18, 2018. Clark, 22, was in his grandmother's backyard and unarmed. Police, who fired twenty rounds of bullets at him, claim they mistook Clark's cellphone for a gun.
